Lesson 1. Methods of Weed Control.
- Weeds can be controlled using the following methods.
- Cultural method
- Biological method
- Chemical method
- Mechanical method.
Cultural Method of Weed Control: making use of close planting can be used when planting crops to reduce the growth of weed. Planting of cover crops is also used to control weeds because they cover every available space so that, there won’t be space for weed to grow. Mulching can also be used to prevent light from getting to the weed seeds to prevent growth.
Biological Method of Weed Control. This is done by releasing bio agents like nematode, fungal or bacteria to a weed – infested area and allowing the agent to attack the weeds.
MechanicalM of Weed Control. It can be accomplished through using of hands to pull the weeds, hoe, digging or mowing.
Chemical Method of Weed Control. This is done by using herbicides like glyphosate to eliminate common weeds.
